MINI - John Cooper Works Price: £32,170

Last Updated On: 23/02/2025

The latest MINI John Cooper Works (JCW) is both a thrilling hot hatch and convertible that continues to impress with its performance and style.

The JCW features bold and aggressive styling, with unique alloy wheels, large red brake calipers, a big roof spoiler, and a JCW-specific front bumper. The interior is well-finished and attractive, though somewhat cramped, especially in the back. The new model also includes a 9.5-inch OLED infotainment display that controls most of the car’s key features. The Convertible's canvas roof, which can be partially retracted to create a sunroof effect, folds away in 18 seconds at speeds up to 19mph (31km/h).

The MINI JCW is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 228bhp and 236lb ft of torque. This allows the car to accelerate from 0-62mph (100km/h) in just 6.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 155mph (249km/h). Performance figures for the Convertible model are 6.4 seconds and 152mph (245km/h) respectively. The handling is sharp and responsive, making it a joy to drive on twisty roads. WLTP Fuel consumption is fairly reasonable at between 41.5 43.5mpg.

Driving experience, practicality and conclusion

The JCW offers a thrilling driving experience with its powerful engine and excellent handling. The suspension is firm but manages to strike a balance between ride quality and driving fun. The steering is nicely weighted, and the car feels perfectly at home on a twisting B-road.

While the JCW is a fun and exciting car to drive, it does have some drawbacks in terms of practicality. The rear seats are tight and not very comfortable for adults or teenagers. The boot space is also limited, even more so in the Convertible version, making it less practical for everyday use.

The latest MINI John Cooper Works is available as a hot hatch or convertible that offers a thrilling driving experience and stylish design. However, it does have some limitations in terms of practicality. If you’re looking for a fun and exciting car to drive and don’t mind the cramped interior, the JCW is definitely worth considering.
